My new sustainable swimsuit from June Swimwear
Previously, I've introduced you through my journey of a more responsible and environment-friendly way to travel and live abroad. From small actions like using solid shampoo (thank you Lush cosmetics) and cruelty-free and vegan products to bigger actions like participating in beach cleanings and choosing accommodation that is sustainable and responsible. I believe that all actions as big or small as they are should be encouraged and passed along. Choosing a new swimsuit for my next adventure (and surfing initiation) was no exception, it had to be from a local and sustainable company.
Luckily for me, Montreal is full of talented designers and creatives that are offering an alternative to the fast-fashion industry and all its negative impact on our environment.
Junes Swimwear was the first on top of my head for multiple reasons. First, they are from Montreal, and what I mean by buying local can't get more real here. Their warehouse is located in Montreal with a factory based in Quebec, which reduces significantly their environmental footprint. Second, all their creations come directly from their small team of designer and graphic designer located in Montreal which encourages the local economy. And last but not least, they've started to introduce recycled fabrics in their collections which are made from recycled yarn recovered from plastic and garbage found in the Mediterranean sea. Oh! And there's even better, you can shop directly from their workspace during open to public hours, which means no delivery fees and no negative impact on the environment. Talking about being a sustainable company in the fashion industry!
All that to say, you can have both feminine and sportive swimsuits from a local company that cares about the sustainability of its industry. Who said you had to compromise and couldn't have it all?
Psssst! In case you didn't know, there's an online exclusive division (scoop; of apparel!) coming up on February 5th so, keep an eye open on their social media here.
